Brunel Museum

On Tuesday afternoon  (June 11), the EIL students joined Profs. Berry and Parsons for a visit to the Brunel Museum at Rotherhithe on the bank of the Thames River.  In the original shaft of the tunnel (under the Thames River) that Marc and Isambard (Kingdom) Brunel designed and built, our guide (Tim Thomas) gave an animated lecture on this great nineteenth century engineering achievement.  Completed in 1834, this was the world's first underwater tunnel.  Isambard Brunel was considered by many to be the greatest engineer of Victorian England. The Mayflower pub shown below is the location of the original launching of the pilgrim's Mayflower ship of the seventeenth century. Also shown below is an outdoor problem session for the ECE 301 lab.
