British Science Museum (South Kensington)

On Friday, July 2 the EIL students visited the British Science Museum in South Kensington.  They were able to see some of the Boulton and Watt Steam Engines and Babbage's Difference Engine (Models 1 and 2).  Professors Berry and Parsons awarded trivia winners with candy afterwards.  The group photo (with EIL banner) is taken with Parsons radial-flow steam turbine (1891).  This turbine and generator was the first to show that turbines could be run as economically as the best steam engines of earlier design and similar output.  It was one of three similar sets installed in 1892 for the Cambridge Electric Supply Company, and ran for about 30 years.
